Wembley Business Centre: Creating New Dimensions in a Historic Landmark

By January 25, 2026No Comments

Built upon the iconic Wembley Ice Cream Factory, the Wembley Business Centre stands as a powerful symbol of transformation—where heritage meets innovation and history shapes the future of business. As a recognised historic landmark, the building differentiates itself from conventional business centres by offering not only premium spaces, but also a compelling story that dates back nearly a century.

The Wembley Business Centre provides a high-end environment designed for businesses to thrive and succeed. Retaining the original Art Déco façade of the historic Wembley building, the centre carefully balances architectural preservation with modern functionality. This seamless fusion creates a distinctive identity that appeals to organisations seeking a space with character, prestige, and purpose.

Spanning a total of 13,000 square metres, the Wembley Business Centre offers eight open-plan floors of versatile space, with individual floors reaching up to 1,800 square metres. Flooded with natural light, the interiors are designed to accommodate a wide range of uses, including offices, fitness centres, gyms, clinics, schools, retail outlets, training centres, and entertainment facilities. Units are available from 300m² to 920m², with flexibility for smaller configurations between 350m² and 550m², ensuring adaptability to diverse operational needs.

State-of-the-art facilities elevate the experience for tenants and visitors alike. The building features a highly finished reception and lobby area, open-plan and customisable office layouts, access control systems, and CCTV monitoring throughout. A private car park, energy-efficient apertures, fibre optic preparation, and comprehensive waste management systems further support modern business requirements. Disability access is integrated throughout the building, reinforcing inclusivity and ease of use. Upper levels benefit from large terraces, offering additional space and panoramic views that enhance the working environment.

The story of Wembley is deeply rooted in Maltese history. In 1937, Luke V. Gauci returned to Malta after completing his studies in England and established the Wembley Ice Cream Factory in Gzira. The factory introduced Malta’s first pasteurised, prepacked ice creams—produced untouched by hand—and quickly became a household name. Distribution evolved from tricycles and donkey-driven carts to refrigerated lorries, cementing Wembley as one of Malta’s longest-standing legacies. In 1956, Guido Bonello Ghio joined the business, and together they continued to build what would become the Wembley legacy.

The building itself is a testament to resilience. During the Second World War, the factory was bombed and rebuilt twice. It was requisitioned by the Government and repurposed as a Communal Feeding Department, serving food rations during a time of survival. For over 70 years, the factory remained operational, hosting not only ice cream production but also other leading products, making it an enduring pillar of Maltese industry.

Today, the Wembley Business Centre is perfectly positioned in Gzira, a vibrant seaside town in the heart of Malta. Its central location places it close to the seafront and within easy reach of Sliema, St Julian’s, and the capital city, Valletta. The neighbourhood offers a rich blend of narrow streets, cultural heritage, and stunning coastal views, complemented by a wide selection of restaurants, cafés, supermarkets, shopping areas, embassies, public gardens, and residential accommodation. Excellent public transport links, proximity to hospitals, schools, the University of Malta, and the airport further enhance its appeal.

The Wembley Business Centre is more than a workplace—it is a unique destination for businesses that want to be etched in history while creating new dimensions for growth, innovation, and success.
